Mid-Eastern
Luristan
7th - 8th B.C."The Bronze Age"
The
arts of this great period were dominated by metal work, almost exclusively
bronze, gold and to a lesser degree silver. Parts of this society
reflected in the artifacts a semi-nomadic pastoral existence with
a focus on a warlike tribal
chief ruling a hierarchical society. The main focus was on the production
of weapons and
personal and portable ornaments.
In 1930 an
important archeological discovery in the province of Luristan
(once a part of ancient Persia, now located in Western Iran) established
what became known as "the Luristan Bronzes." Cups, horse
accoutrements, daggers, swords and shields made by the local metal
workers for the tribal nomads were among the treasures excavated
in this area.
